Bristol Estates continues to own property and property related rights and interests, including rights to restrictive covenants, rights of pre-emption, and rights of reverter, in Kemptown, Brighton, that were first purchased by the 1st Marquess of Bristol in the early 1800’s. Today holdings and rights centre around Bristol Gate, off Eastern Road.

The 1st Marquess of Bristol acquired large parts of Kemp Town, Brighton. He gifted 20 acres of land for the cemetery in 1856, as well as the land on which St Marys Hall school stands.

The 3rd Marquess of Bristol transferred the land on which Brighton Racecourse now stands to the Borough in 1888.
